Captain Midnight was a U.S. radio serial that aired from 1938 to 1949. Sponsored by the Skelly Oil Company, it captured the imaginations of listeners across the nation. The show’s creators were radio scripters Wilfred G. Moore and Robert M. Burtt. The story revolved around Captain Midnight, an intrepid aviator who faced off against the notorious villain Ivan Shark, an international criminal. Alongside Captain Midnight was his young ward, Chuck Ramsay, and the resourceful Patsy Donovan. Their adventures spanned the globe, taking them from pre-World War II intrigue to post-war mysteries. The show began as a syndicated serial in 1938, airing on Midwest stations like Chicago’s WGN. Later, it became part of the Mutual Broadcasting System and eventually moved to the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) in 1945.
